The Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT
Nathanial Peterson is a Senior Science in the Climate Action lever of the Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT, part of the CGIAR system. In this role, Nate leads a team focused on behavioral optimization of risk management technologies via private sector partners. This can take the form of research on agtech uptake by farmers to helping policymakers integrate climate information into their decision making processes.
Nate leads CGIAR’s Food Systems Accelerator, which is currently building investment readiness for companies in eastern and Southern Africa offering climate smart agriculture services. His team is also developing accelerators and innovation hubs in several other countries in the Horn as well as West Africa.
Outside of the Alliance of Bioversity Interational & CIAT, Nate has consulted with UN FAO on mainstreaming behavioral science thinking in implementation design and testing and is part of the SHARED team at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF). He also sits on the board of UNDP’s African Borderlands Centre, where he advises on private sector investment to catalyse economic growth in regions like Karamoja.
