KALRO
Salim is the Champion and Team Lead for Agricultural Data and Digitization at KALRO, where he drives the adoption of digital technologies to transform Kenya’s agricultural sector. With a Master’s in Distributed Computing Technology (DCT) from the University of Nairobi, he specializes in data-driven decision-making for both farms and policy. Salim has spearheaded several initiatives, including the Digital Climate Advisory Information System for Agriculture, helping farmers adapt to climate conditions. He supports the Digital for Agriculture (D4Ag) sector by providing High-Performance Computing resources through KALRO’s Big Data initiative, which fosters innovation. Over the past four years, he has led multiple public sector projects, including the National Farmer Register, improving the targeting of agricultural interventions, and developing digital tools for farmers in micro-climatically sensitive areas. Currently, he leads efforts to establish a digital agricultural register as a public good, integrating a unique farmer identifier across various sectors, including farm registries, soil data, markets, cooperatives, weather services, and input/output providers. This effort is a crucial foundational step in advancing Kenya’s Digital Public Infrastructure for the agricultural ecosystem.
