Renée Hunter

Renée oversees, manages and delivers a global portfolio of innovative gender and business projects, ensuring they meet the highest standards. Her work spans the entire diversity of Value for Women’s work, from gender lens investing strategies and processes, through work with entrepreneurial ecosystem actors to better support women entrepreneurs, to direct technical assistance to innovate on and pilot gender-forward business practices in the field, for financial institutions, renewable energy organisations, startups, and agribusinesses. Renée also conducts research and contributes to Value for Women’s thought leadership.

She has a particular interest in understanding systems and incentives for businesses to do better – as well as digital and financial inclusion for women. Renée brings to her work a background in financial and digital inclusion, innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems, along with a passion for supporting women’s empowerment. She has previously worked with Cenfri as Project Lead for the i2i Facility in South Africa, as well as with Divitel in the Netherlands. She holds degrees in International Relations from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She also holds a master’s degree in Development Finance from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business.
